About the event

Praying Scripture

God speaks to us through His Word.

Your heart is where your intentions live.

“…the LORD saw that human wickedness and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time.” Genesis 6:5

“The Word of God is living and active, sharper than a two-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Prayer is where God, through His Word, clarifies and reorients our thoughts and intentions. This is the “God speaking” part of the conversations we call prayer.

The Word of God also gives us words to pray when we don’t know what to say.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

For the next four weeks we will practice hearing God and speaking with God relying upon the Word of God as a guide.

Week 1

Day One ...................................................................................................Matthew 6:9-15 In the spaces below, write the entire Lord’s prayer as if the Lord is speaking to you. For example: “I am your Father. I fill the heavens. My name is holy.”

‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Day Two........................................................................................................Luke 11:1-4 In the spaces below, write the entire Lord’s prayer as if you are speaking to the Lord. For example: “Father, you are everywhere. You are right here with me. You are holy.”

Day Three......................................................................................................Psalm 23 In the spaces below, write the entire Psalm 23 as if the Lord is speaking to you. For example: “I, the LORD, am your shepherd. I give you everything you need.”

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures

He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul

He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for You are with me

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Day Four.......................................................................................................Psalm 23 In the spaces below, write the entire Psalm 23 as if you are speaking to the Lord. For example: “You, Lord, are my shepherd. I have everything I need.”

Day Five ........................................................................................................Psalm 1 You now know the pattern. Write Psalm 1 below, verse by verse, as if the Lord is speaking to you. For example: “I bless you as you refuse to plan your life according to the advice given you by wicked people or pattern your life like those who rebel against Me, or sit in conversation with those who scoff when they think of Me.”
